'New lease of life for historic watering hole'
The Stockwell Public House dates back to the 14th century and has plenty of features remaining despite it's hard life.
The building had been altered in the years before planning and building consent was necessary and some of the alterations were inappropriate to a historic building of this value.
The present owners took on a building that was in dire need of major refurbishment and extension to make it viable.
Inkpen Downie accepted the challenge of repairing and extending the building to provide an attractive family restaurant and pub.
The design had to make the most of the buildings spatial qualities, the patina of age while at the same time ensuring that the integrity of the historic building remained after the project was completed.
