'Grant funding allows re-opening of country church in Essex'
This church was forced to close due to collapse of part of the ceiling internally falls of masonry from the tower externally.
Inkpen Downie carried out a detailed survey of the ornate flushwork to the tower exterior, negotiated the level of repair with English Heritage and then assisted in a successful application for grant funding.
The work had to be programmed to meet Heritage Lottery Fund grant deadlines and accommodate the seasonal activities of bats. The church is now reopened and there should not be any reason to return to the top stages of the tower for a couple of generations.
