February 2023

Monthly Update

We continue to fly through the new year, and the beginning of Spring is almost upon us!

February started with the completion of a disused commercial property into a new residential property near Harwich. The works predominantly consisted of external works, providing the property with an increased level of curb appeal.

As the month progressed, we saw the demolition of the remaining facade of Colchester’s old Bus Depot which was promptly followed by extensive archaeological excavations which the Colchester Archaeological Trust hopes to open to the public for viewing. More info on this will be posted to our social media channels as it progresses.

On the conservation front, the ongoing phased project at St Michaels and All Angels Church in Roxwell, near Chelmsford, has achieved building control approval for the upcoming works.

Towards the end of the month, we completed the design for 3 new contemporary dwellings in Bradwell, Essex. The dwellings are designed to complement their natural surroundings which are contrasted by a redundant quarry.

This month’s greatest success however was gaining planning approval for the proposed development of 31 flats and associated commercial units on Queen Street in Colchester. Inkpen Downie Architects alongside our client are happy that the project can now move forward so that we can deliver the City of Colchester new development which improves the quality of the built environment.

Throughout the month we have also won work for a variety of new projects. These include the design of a new barn conversion in Margaretting, a retrospective planning application for a Grade 2 listed property in Braintree, as well as collaboration in an application for major external works and landscaping for a large property in North Essex.
