Architectural Glazing

The client’s brief was to create a single storey thermally efficient extension to increase usable floor space in order to create a larger more open plan kitchen, dining and living room for their family to enjoy and as a great place to entertain.

They wanted the design of the extension to be “different to your typical extension”, using a palette of modern materials that would create a sleek and refined finish. The design needed to incorporate large spans of thin profiled glazing that looks and opens up directly on to the garden beyond to maximise natural light and a sense of openness. Due to their south facing garden the design needed to generate sun path tracking analysis to detail the standing seam zinc roof overhang to reduce solar gain to an acceptable level in order to stop the extension overheating in the summer months.
