Development of a Derelict Urban Site for Eco Homes

This new development of high specification homes for sale maximises the development area of a rather unpromising derelict piece of land on the edge of an Essex town.

Knowing that the local authority would require a highly designed solution, our clients commissioned us to provide the necessary top quality design input. The result is a high-density, contemporary scheme incorporating sustainable building techniques and materials.

The proposals resolve a number of complex interrelated constraints, including a noisy elevated road, adjacent to and overlooking the housing and difficult site access. A balance of penthouses, flats, townhouses and low cost housing for sale has been developed to a density of 36 units per hectare. The proposals comply with PPG3 and the emerging local plan, and also improves the existing public open space, pedestrian and cycle routes.

Our client is keen to reflect current government policy on sustainable development and the design responds to that. The new homes will be built with energy efficient construction methods and passive solar and natural ventilation techniques. They will be assessed in accordance with the BRE Ecohomes scheme, and the National Home Energy Ratings Scheme, for which we are assessors.
