New Parish Centre at St Saviours
This addition to an historic Victorian church in Oxton, Wirral was officially opened on 24 September 2005.
The parish of St Saviour Oxton with St Andrew, Noctorum, are developing the role of the church building within the wider community, and the new accessible parish centre will be the catalyst for that change. Open to a wide range of groups and activities, it is intended that the extended building will be open seven days a week. The project has the backing of the Community Fund and has benefited from substantial private donations.
The project has involved consultations with the DAC, English Heritage and the Victorian Society as well as the local planning department. The new building is free standing on its own foundations without need for structural support from the existing church, which is separated by a glazed atrium.
The parish wanted to erect a sustainable building and the design is environmentally conscious incorporating natural ventilation, high levels of insulation and the use of sustainable materials.
The PCC has launched its own website about the building, with photographs of the work in progress and details about how the building is to be used. Visit www.stsavioursparishcentre.org.uk for details.
