Chappel Primary School

Founded in 1871 by the Church of England, Chappel C of E Primary School is a busy village school operating within the nation’s maintained system of education and is now run by the Church in partnership with the local education authority.

In 2006 the school had raised enough funding to expand the main 1970’s building and provide additional teaching space and facilities.  A modern and progressive Primary school, Chappel has a popular Reception Class, offers a broad curriculum covering Key Stages 1 and 2 and is committed to additional provision for all pupils with Special Needs - this meant that teaching space was at a premium.

The Governors’ brief was to provide a new resources room extension to DfES infant class standards in order to meet a growing range of teaching requirements and to specifically enable smaller classes for the early years pupils.

The additional 64sqm of teaching space features a spacious glazed link affording a secure connection with the existing school buildings. The new development will provide accommodation for many activities and teaching needs such as:

• additional space in order to meet the needs of the infants’ teaching
• child friendly library space with dedicated shelving allowing independent access to books
• work with small groups or individuals
• Special Needs space for individual support work
• Chappel’s Intervention Programme for booster lessons in literacy & numeracy skills
• special projects - large art projects, performance and rehearsal space.

The new resources room and reception class base for Chappel Primary School was opened on Friday 27th June 2008, by the Queen’s Representative in Essex, The Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Lord Petre who was guest of honour at the Opening Ceremony.
